Introducing: The Digital Press04/28/2011

By: Colin Forward

The e-book craze is nothing new, but students have been getting the short end of the stick for a while now.

Ask any college student; the hardest cost to swallow every semester is that of textbooks. Not only are they expensive, they are a pain to lug around and often play a supporting role to online resources. Increasingly, digital natives are driving the demand for a more engaging instructional medium.

We think its time to give the people what they want, and we’re kicking off the movement with McGraw-Hill and the University of Central Florida by releasing the UCF Digital Press. UCF is already a leader in distributed learning, but starting this summer, students will be able to download their textbooks – complete with rich media, hyperlinks and coaching algorithms – directly to their favorite mobile device. That means backpacks never have to get much heaver than a tablet and that means no more roller backpacks getting kicked down the staircase. More importantly, digital texts will drive down the costs of a product plagued by expensive printing, shipping and a huge secondary market.

So,  students – put away the roller bag, hold on to your cash and choose a textbook that understands the way you want to learn.
